I joined the Chown Lab in October 2013, moving from the DEEPSEAS group at the National Oceanography Centre, UK. My background is in marine ecology with my PhD (University of Southampton, July 2013) research focusing on deep-sea ecology at the community and population level. My PhD research was part of the EU-wide HERMIONE project examining deep-sea habitats and the impact of human activity of these historically understudied ecosystems. During the course of my PhD I also had the opportunity to intern at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, California examining ecological trends of benthic megafauna in submarine canyons.
Previously I have worked as a research assistant in the Laland Lab of social learning research, University of St Andrews, UK. This work involved the continuation of research I started during my undergraduate degree at the university, examining the social learning behavior of fishes in relation to their size.
My current research interests are broad and include analysis of global-scale ecological trends, trait-based ecology of insects in Australia and further afield, and the application of ecological models in marine and terrestrial habitats.
